If you have a computer with a multi-core CPU, you can assign more cores to your virtual machine from its settings window. A virtual machine with two or four cores will be much more responsive than a virtual machine with one, just as a computer with more cores is. Your computer’s CPU does all the work of running the virtual machine and its software, so the more CPU it can use, the better it will run. Here’s how to enable Intel VT-x or AMD-V if it’s disabled-enable it in the BIOS, then head to your virtual machine program’s settings and make sure it’s enabled there too. However, some computers don’t automatically enable them. Newer Intel and AMD processors generally include these features. Potential drawbacks for VMs with large disks include backups or replications. ![]() One last piece of advice is to keep enough space on the datastore, since with very large VMs the possibility of changing the datastore is limited if all your datastores have been designed with a smaller capacity. If your VM has snapshots, be sure to delete them before you extend the disk. Remember, you cannot use a disk larger than 2 TB if you plan to use VMware fault tolerance (FT) protection for your VM. To use a larger disk, make sure you use the GUID partition table (GPT) partitioning scheme when you initialize and format the disks. Make sure you know the guest OS to ensure it supports virtual hard disks larger than 2 TB. We didn't receive any error within the UI of vSphere when we changed the size. Hot extending of the VMDK guest OS completed Change the size of the VMDK by entering the new value you want that disk to have. The volume must not only be initialized by using GPT, but also the system firmware must use UEFI. You can also use more than 2 TB for boot volumes. Now, when Microsoft dropped support for old OSs such as 2003 Server or 2008 Server, all modern systems support it out of the box however, the device must be initialized by using the GUID partition table (GPT) partitioning scheme. However, there are still some restrictions, and it does not mean that all guest OSs support this. The fact that vSphere 6.5 and higher version supports the possibility of extending VMDK disks past 2 TB while the virtual machine (VM) is running is not new. The actual limit of VMDK on a datastore is 62 TB, which is very big, but if you're looking to virtualize large-scale business-critical applications, vSphere now allows you to do so without any limitations. Topaz Gigapixel created a big problem on my computer. Adobe is pushing things in the right direction with Super Resolution, and even though I’d say the hype grew a bit beyond the reality, the reality is still very good. Upsampling isn’t something that most photographers need to do very often, but when it’s necessary, it can make or break a print. I’m hopeful that they can push the envelope even further in the future. Any improvement to a good foundation is welcome, and Super Resolution is indeed better than Adobe’s prior best upsampling algorithm. So, I take issue with reviews that claim Super Resolution drastically reshapes… well, much of anything. Still, it’s arguably a bit behind the results of Topaz Gigapixel AI, and all of these upsampling algorithms are, unsurprisingly, far behind an original, high-resolution image. With Super Resolution, Adobe has done a good job building upon their existing Preserve Details 2.0 algorithm to allow better upsampling than before. As with the other samples in this review, I leave it to you to judge which one you like better and by how much. Personally, given that Topaz Gigapixel AI costs $80, and I already have the Adobe bundle, I’m sticking with Super Resolution. Between the two, I lean toward the Topaz image, but they’re pretty close. ![]() The Topaz image on the right has smaller, finer details overall, as well as less noise and crunchiness. The Adobe Super Resolution version on the left doesn’t have as many strange color artifacts or waxy-looking areas. (There’s a framing difference because Adobe applied a non-removable lens profile, while Topaz didn’t.) I figured it would be helpful to add a Super Resolution vs Gigapixel AI comparison so you can see what the state-of-the-art is from more than just Adobe. Adobe Super Resolution vs Topaz Gigapixel AIĪnother company that’s using artificial intelligence upsampling algorithms is Topaz, with their Topaz Gigapixel AI software. Any issues I have on this topic are not with Adobe, but with the coverage on various sites that makes Super Resolution seem like never-before-seen technology, when it’s more like a nice iteration of something that’s been around for a few years already. It’s pretty amazing what artificial intelligence algorithms can do today, not just for upsampling, but also for things like noise reduction and fixing motion blur. Regardless, I’m happy Adobe has figured out a way to improve their existing upsampling algorithms even further, and hope they can continue down that path. (Though something similar can be said of Preserve Details 2.0.) Perhaps they’ll manage something close, one day – after all, the current iteration is better than almost anyone would have expected back in 2010 or so. Adobe would have to do some absurd wizardry behind the scenes in order to double a photo’s linear resolution without losing much apparent image quality. In short, it’s much better than any of the upsampling algorithms. There are so many finer details in this image, and the non-detailed areas have substantially less noise as well. I took this photo using the Panasonic S1R’s sensor-shift mode, so it’s as close as you’ll get to a “real” 188 megapixel shot of this scene. ![]() The original is a 47-megapixel image from the Panasonic S1R, and all the crops you’ll see in a moment are from that small red rectangle:Īctual 188-megapixel image, taken with sensor-shift Here they are. Instead, it’s a solid advancement to impressive technology that already existed.Īh, you won’t believe me without tests. ![]() But don’t read too much into headlines claiming that Super Resolution is a revolution. Don’t get me wrong – I’ve been impressed by Preserve Details 2.0 for years, and any improvement is welcome. Super Resolution also isn’t drastically better than the Preserve Details 2.0 upsampling algorithm that Photoshop has already had since 2017. If that’s what you were hoping for, you’ll need to temper your expectations. The answer is in the title of this review: good, but don’t expect a miracle.Ī 12-megapixel image that has been enhanced to 48 megapixels with Super Resolution won’t match an original photo from a 48-megapixel camera, or even get especially close. Everything above is nice to know, but it won’t matter if Super Resolution isn’t any good. ![]() ![]() In 1982, a transition to a genuine blood donation system based on the principle of voluntary and unpaid blood donation was carried out. I don’t know if the AI LSO in DCS can tell if an aircraft is overweight and automatically waves off overweight aircraft or if it’s just a bug with the unlimited fuel setting that causes an aircraft to get waved off every time, but I can tell you that with unlimited fuel turned on, I was getting waved off 10 out of 10 Case 1 landing attempts and when I turned off unlimited fuel, I immediately returned to my typical case 1 landing success rate of about 7 or 8 out of 10 successful landings and only 2 or 3 out of 10 attempts ending with wave offs. I finally realized that with unlimited fuel turned on, and no munitions except for bullets and AIM 9’s on the F/A-18C wing tips, the aircraft weights around 34,700 pounds.Īs soon as I realized this and turned off the unlimited fuel setting and I was able to dump fuel to 33,000 pounds or less, I was no longer getting waved off every time and started sticking about 7 or 8 out of 10 case 1 landing attempts again. What I didn’t realize is that when you have the unlimited fuel setting turned on, whenever you flip the dump fuel switch to the On position, it doesn’t stay in the on position and immediately switches to the OFF position, so when I thought I was dumping fuel, I wasn’t. With 6,000 pounds of fuel and no munitions except for bullets and AIM 9’s on the F/A-18C wing tips, the F/A-18C is below 33,000 pounds total weight. Part of my normal carrier landing procedures/checklist is to check my total weight on the checklist page and if I’m over 33,000 pounds, I turn on the dump fuel switch and as long as I have bingo fuel set to 6,000 pounds, the dump fuel switch will automatically turn off when my fuel state reaches 6,000. For the life of me I couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong. No matter what I did, I was getting waved off. Waited out the transcode buffer (120 sec on my server) and most of the transcodes still showed as throttled. Tautulli showed that all the streams were in throttled mode, meaning it still had more headroom to go. I managed to hit 24 simultaneous 1080P to 720P transcodes before I gave up opening new tabs. Ended up picking up a 9600K and a Z390 motherboard for $290 at Microcenter, a bit more expensive than the 1660, but I figured if it worked out, I'd make up the difference in price in power savings over time and end up with a way more powerful CPU for VMs. Going CPU only intrigued me as that would be one less component to cool in my case and significant power savings. Was about to spend $240 for a 1660 SUPER when I came across some forum threads about how great the new UHD630 iGPUs were at transcoding.
